When I got my Dell Venue Pro over two years ago, one of the first apps I would show off to people was Cocktail Flow. It oozed the Metro Microsoft Design Language principles left and right. Beautiful typography, fast and fluid motion, and no chrome in sight. It was a beautiful app. Well Team Distinction, the developers behind Cocktail Flow, have updated the app to version 4.

While we wait for official apps from companies we make due with 3rd party solutions. However, a lot of the times we get some great apps from the Windows Phone community and it’s really hard to see what else an official app can add. You only need to look at 4th and Mayor and Metrotube to see examples of the active development community. You can go ahead and add Starbux Card to that mix of examples.

Need to film your friend's flying wakeboard stunts? Just whip out your iPhone 5. (Credit: Video screenshot by Eric Mack/CNET ) It’s not often that the story behind the filming of a commercial is worth my time, but this spot for what’s basically a levitating wakeboard filmed entirely on an iPhone 5 caught my attention. According to Sparkhouse, the marketing geniuses behind the whole campaign, the ad for the FlyBoard from Fly Jet Sports was filmed entirely using an iPhone 5 coated in a water-resistant coating made by Liquipel. Foodies rejoice! — whether you like cooking or eating, mixing or drinking, dining in or dining out, Apple has you covered with the brand new Food & Drink category in the iPhone and iPad App Store. The Food & Drink category appears to be dedicated to creation and consumption apps, and doesn’t currently include any shopping, ordering, or related commerce apps. The Top Chart currently consists of Food Network in the Kitchen, Allrecipes.com Dinner Spinner, FastPaleo, Dinners, Drive-ins and Dives Locator, Mixologist Drink Recipes, Local Eats, Cor.kz Wine Info, Grill-It!, Zagat, and Weber’s On the Grill. Although Apple hasn’t publicly commented on the new category, like the recent addition of a Catalogs category, Food & Drink does help better sort content and allow apps a better chance at being discovered and featured.

For several days the App Store has sometimes been pushing out corrupted binaries, prominent developers are complaining. Instapaper creator Marco Arment notes that affected apps will crash automatically on launch every time, even after deleting and reinstalling, so long as the broken file is hosted on the App Store.
