Flush from that springtime financing boost from Samsung, Sharp’s reportedly readying production on new screens for Apple’s next smartphone. According to Nikkan Kogyo, one of Japan’s business dailies, the display manufacturer will start production on LCD panels for the next iPhone in its Kameyama plant this June, although there’s no specifics about size and resolution differences since the iPhone 5. Company team-up Japan Display (which includes LG Display, Sony, Hitachi and Toshiba) has also allegedly received orders from Apple, with production already underway.

If you’re on Verizon, we’re sure you’ve been wondering where your high-end Lumia device is. It seems like the carrier just doesn’t want to carry one. Sure you have the Lumia 822, and sure there’ve been leaks all over the Internet about a Lumia 920 variant coming. But you haven’t seen anything of substance concerning the latter

There’s not too much to say about this one except here are the first almost official images of the Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 aka ‘Laser’ that is due sometime this month. The images were leaked by @evleaks, so we’re sure they’re legit. The Lumia 928 is supposed to be the Verizon/CDMA counterpart of the Lumia 920 but with some minor updates, including a supposed Xenon flash, which is clearly visible next to the adjacent LED and a slightly thinner frame (though not as thin as ‘Catwalk’). Otherwise, it shares the same 4.5” LCD display, 1.5GHz dual core CPU.

Watch out, Richard Yu! Not long after the China launch of the 6.1-inch Huawei Ascend Mate earlier today, the notorious @evleaks tweeted out the above two press shots of an Ascend G700, as well as referring to an old tweet from the often reliable @paopao0128 (of Blog of Mobile fame) who suggested the G700 will feature Android 4.2, a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 SoC (as opposed to the quad-core Huawei HiSilicon K3V2 chip on the Ascend Mate and the Ascend D2), an “HD” LCD (our money’s on 720p only, like the leaked G710) and both WCDMA and TD-SCDMA flavors. Another fresh G700 leak we found shows a hands-on photo obtained from Sina Weibo (which has since been deleted, but it’s also right after the break), and it also mentions that the phone will have a 5-inch display plus 2GB of RAM. There’s no info on pricing, but the careless leakster on Weibo reminded us that the budget-minded G series devices never go over 2,000 or about $320 unsubsidized. To put that into perspective, the quad-core, 5-inch full-HD D2 is currently available for almost twice as many yuans

Samsung has announced today that it plans on dropping its LCD patent case against LG. The case was over Samsung’s OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays. The case originated in 2011 when Samsung believed that 11 of its researchers leaked the details of its OLED displays over to LG. LG fired shots back by filing its …

We haven’t even caught official wind regarding what Samsung’s going to announce in just two days and we’re already starting to hear some rumors regarding the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
